In a time when Sudan is heading toward elections, a number of international forces tried to obstruct this election process under the pretext of crisis and freedoms.

However, the African Union-United Nations joint mission in Sudan issued a report saying that the war in Darfur region is over and the level of violence has diminished significantly.

The said report was followed by another report by the commander of the UNAMID peacekeeping forces, Martin Luther Agwai, in which he said that Darfur is witnessing no military operations at the current time and that the situation is heading into stability.

Before the issuance of the said reports, the US special envoy to Sudan, Scott Gration, told the decision makers in the White House that Darfur region did not witness genocide. The US envoy said the war was a local inter-tribal conflict, adding that the Sudanese government did not involve in the conflict.

As expected, some extremists in the Obama Administration and the Save Darfur organizations attacked Scott Gration and forced him to backtrack on his statements in this regard.

The Save Darfur organizations have increased their attempts to criticize the Sudanese government because they feel the seriousness of the Sudanese people to conduct the elections that would put an end to the power crisis in Darfur and Sudan as whole.

In Belgium, a new research on the conflict in Sudan's western Darfur region shows that more than 80 percent of the deaths since fighting began in 2003 were the result of disease, not violence. The facts and statistics of the research were based on reports of the organizations concerned about Darfur issue.

The research refuted the falsified reports on the number of the causalities of war in Darfur. It is unfortunate that the entire accusations on Sudan were based on exaggerated and inflated figures on the victims of Darfur war.
