(SS) The leader of the opposition Popular National Congress Party in Sudan Dr. Hassan Abdullah Al-Turabi has said in a symposium few days ago that the SPLM has told him that it will choose secession of South Sudan if President Omer Al-Bashir is elected as President of Sudan in the coming elections. Al-Turabi's speech seems aimed at placing the unity and secession options in the hands of the Sudanese people; that is to say they have to choose either electing President Al-bashir with secession of South Sudan or electing another candidate with a united Sudan. No doubt that this speech is not democratic nor objective and does not fit the cleverness of Dr. Al-Turabi. It is not a democratic speech because democracy is the freedom to exercise your choices without fear or intimidations. Al-Turabi's speech that South Sudan will secede if President Al-bashir is elected in the coming elections seems like a threat to the Sudanese voters who wish to vote for President Al-Bashir. On the other hand, the speeches of both Al-Turabi and the SPLM are not reasonable because no one can force the Southern citizens into unity or secession. And if one claimed ability to do so, that will be a real disaster. The speech of Dr. Al-Turabi about the SPLM intentions to separate the south if President Al-bashir is re-elected in the coming elections is not objective because the SPLM was able to announce this stance if it was true. |
