No body can confirm that establishment of independent state is the main goal of south Sudan citizens as they were able to establish their independent state since the Round Table Conference in 1965 and the Addis Ababa Agreement in 1972.

And even during the 2003- Naivasha negotiations that culminated in signing of the 2005 -Comprehensive Peace Agreement, the SPLM did not speak about secession as the main issue.

It concentrated on issues of power and wealth sharing, the security protocol arrangements, the interim period, the donors conference and other issues.

As we observed, since the issuance of the SPLM manifesto in 1983, the SPLM did not say that secession is the main aspired goal of the SPLM. And, of course, if the SPLM wanted separation, nobody could prevent it from speaking about it in public.

So, from where did this separatist trend arise?. Is it a real trend? The answer is no. The SPLM can not say that the southern Sudan citizens are looking forward for secessions, because if the SPLM is confident that the south Sudan citizens will vote for secession, it had to remain silent in this stage in anticipation of credible and honest referendum that guarantees flawless secession.

The SPLM step leading a pro-secession campaign is a blatant evidence that the SPLM is stealing the will of the south Sudan citizens.

The statements of some northern SPLM leaders that the SPLM separatist trend is a treason to the principles and manifesto of the SPLM is another evidence that separation has never been the main goal of the SPLM.

This has become clearer at the National Congress-SPLM consultative meetings that took place in Juba recently, and in the statement of the US Vice President Joe Biden that the US does not want another failed state in the region.

In addition to all that, the current movements in the north to make unity attractive will transform the separation trends into unity.
