The Equality and Justice Movement (EJM) has said its recent attack on Khartoum’s twin city of Omdurman was aimed to topple the current Sudanese government, and to send the Sudanese government and the entire rebels groups in Darfur region in western Sudan a message that the EJM is now the sole movement in the field, and is capable to hit the Sudanese government inside the capital.

Chadian PresidentHowever, if we look deep into the results and the repercussions of the botched attack, we will notice that the attack was an adventurous and unwise step as it is not possible to defeat the Sudanese army and the security and police forces within the capital.

So, if we ruled out that Dr. Khalil Ibrahim was not realizing the dangers of this attack, we could easily infer that there were another reasons behind the attack a matter which supports the assumptions that the attack was made upon the request of Chad.

The attack on Omdurman was widely denounced by the whole categories of the Sudanese people including the opposition political parties.

The UN, AU, the US, the United Kingdom, and a number of countries and regional and international organizations have  also condemned the attack.

In addition to the heavy loses inflicted on the attackers by the Sudanese regular forces, the EJM has further lost the support of the international powers which were sympathizing with the rebel movement.

Dr. Khalil has jeopardized his forces, making them easy targets of the counter strikes of the Sudanese regular forces.

The attack, which terrified the citizens of Omdurman and endangered the  their lives, is unjustifiable as it comes in a time when Sudan is heading into peace and national accord.

It also comes in a time when international powers such as Britain, which invited the Sudanese foes to come to London for peace talks on Darfur issue, are endeavoring to uphold the peace process in Sudan.

The modern and huge amounts of weapons and ammunitions disclose involvement of regional or international power in the attack as neither the EJM nor any other rebel group have the ability to acquire such weapons and vehicles.

And if we read the attack in light of the tense relations between Sudan and Chad after the latter’s accusation that Sudan supported the Chadian armed opposition in their attack on the Chadian capital of N’djamena several months ago, we can infer that the attack was an attempt by Chad to get revenge over what it considered as the Sudanese support to the Chadian rebels.

The military and political failure of the attack of the EJM is a clear indication that the attack was launched only to satisfy the Chadian government which used the EJM to settle accounts with the Sudanese government.
